Mental illness in the Qur’an. Studies have confirmed that faith in God Almighty is the first way to achieve prevention and treatment of mental illness. The first way to provide a person with the highest level of mental health is to fully realize the meaning of monotheism and the two testimonies, and stay away from polytheism.
Remembrance of God is a cure for mental illness
- There is scientific research that confirms that believing in God Almighty, memorizing prayers, paying zakat and generosity, fasting during Ramadan, Umrah, Hajj, and reading the Qur’an are effective treatments for all mental and psychological diseases that may bother a person.
- The study “Prevention and Treatment of Mental Illness through Talk” indicated that the most prominent psychological diseases are: anxiety, depression, obsessive-compulsive disorder, headaches, fear of illness, and insomnia.
- If faith in God spreads in the soul of a young man, it strengthens his self-confidence, gives him stability, protects him from chaos and intellectual loss, and gains immunity and protection from mental illness.
- The research confirms that maintaining the five-time prayer and dhikr provides us with the best training system for relaxation and mental calm, which helps to get rid of anxiety and nervous tension.
- When a person is in a relaxed state, he may encounter some things or situations that cause mental illness, or he may remember these things or situations, and the individual repeatedly reviews these situations when he is in a relaxed state.
- Mental calm after prayer leads to the gradual elimination of anxiety and tension, thus eliminating the worry that these things are annoying.
- Research shows that night prayer is very important to relieve the worries and emptiness of sadness when magic and God Almighty descend to the lower heaven, as Muslims wake up from their bed and pray to God, breathing their complaints and anxiety out.
the fear
- Fear is a natural emotion that comes from a sense of danger. In the past, people believed that fear is an instinct that arises from the first day a child is born.
- However, studies have shown that a child’s fear usually begins at the age of six months, and the frequency of occurrence increases when he is six years old, because this stage is the beginning of his psychological maturity.
1- Causes of fear in children
- Fear is a blessing from God, like a sense of security, and fear is a double-edged sword that can protect children from potential dangers, if fear is still within its natural range.
- However, if the increase in fear goes too far it becomes a problem that plagues many parents.
- Before talking about addressing children’s fears in the Qur’an, it is necessary to discuss the most important reasons that make children fear abnormally.
- Excessive leniency or constant criticism of children, because they will feel afraid for fear of making mistakes.
- Family problems, especially in childhood, remain in the child’s mind.
- Physical or psychological weakness may lead to fear of contact and association with others.
- External factors and society’s excessive fear for children.
- Children have increased fear of the dark, animals, and death, which is sometimes due to parental mistakes and unpredictable behavior.
- Arab families usually tell stories, telling about specific characters that have remained in our minds since childhood, in order to keep their children away from the unknown.
- Some mothers believe that these stories will raise children by scaring the characters mentioned in the story, so that they will obey orders.
- Although mothers of our time are aware of the seriousness of this problem, there are still some mothers who still believe that it is necessary to frighten their children in response to family orders.
2- Treating fear in children with the Holy Quran
- In the event that the child is afraid again, we recite the exorcisms to him, teach him to recite the supplications, and we seek refuge in God from the accursed Satan, as Ibn al-Qayyim mentioned in his book Al-Tanwir Al-Sa’i’ for Peace and Tranquility. These verses can be recited.
- (And their Prophet said to them, “Indeed, a sign of his kingdom is that the ark will come to you, in which is tranquility from your Lord.” {Al-Baqarah: 248}).
- (Then God sent down His tranquility upon His Messenger and upon the believers) {At-Tawbah: 26}.
- (When he said to his companion, “Do not be sad, for God is with us.” Then God sent down His tranquility upon him and supported him with armies you did not see.) {At-Tawbah: 40}
- (It is He who sent down tranquility into the hearts of the believers, so that they may increase in faith along with their faith) {Al-Fath: 4}.
- (Allah was indeed pleased with the believers when they pledged allegiance to you under the tree. So He knew what was in their hearts, so He sent down tranquility upon them and rewarded them with a near victory.) {Al-Fath: 18} .
- (When those who disbelieved placed in their hearts the fever of pre-Islamic times, then God sent down His tranquility upon His Messenger and upon the believers) {Al-Fath: 26}.
Definition of legal ruqyah
- Linguistic ruqyah is the name of ruqyah, which is protection or refuge from harm for any person from any harm or affliction.
- Ruqyah in Sharia law is the call to God for healing by reading verses of the Holy Qur’an and authentic hadiths in supplication, so the feeling is established within the person that it is God who has the power to heal, and that all things cannot happen except by His discretion and will.
Ruqyah rule
- Al-Ruqyah Al-Shariah Scholars have agreed unanimously on the permissibility of Al-Ruqyah Al-Shariah that includes Qur’anic verses, remembrances, and supplications proven in the Sunnah of the Prophet, whether Muslims recite them themselves or others.
- Either before evil occurs, to prevent it from happening, or after evil occurs that must be eliminated, promoters must firmly believe that trust in God is achieved sincerely, on the authority of Jabir bin Abdullah, may God be pleased with him, who said:
- (I had an uncle who used to perform ruqyah from a scorpion. The Messenger of God, may God bless him and grant him peace, forbade ruqyah. He said: He came to him and said: O Messenger of God, you have forbidden ruqyah, and I am doing ruqyah from a scorpion. He said: “Whoever among you is able to benefit his brother, let him do so.”
Ways for a person to protect himself
- A Muslim faces special circumstances and problems in his life, and these problems change his life. In this case, the reasons that deserve consideration are the reasons for this situation, and through the means and methods it is reliance on God.
- Find a solution with sincere trust in God, and believe that everything that befalls a person will not deviate from His path and is a judgment and arrangement from God. Muslims can take several ways to strengthen themselves.
- I seek refuge in God from Satan and his helpers and followers. The purpose of seeking refuge from Satan is to seek refuge in God from Satan’s conspiracy and magic, because glory belongs to God alone, and He is the one who knows his influence on people.
- And God is the One who is able to protect a worshiper from the accursed Satan. The Almighty said: (And if a temptation causes thee to be moved by Satan, seek refuge in God. Indeed, He is All-Hearing, All-Knowing). The best surahs by which a servant can protect himself from Satan are Surahs Al-Falaq and Al-Nas.
- Realizing the fear of God, observing God’s commandments, and staying away from His prohibitions, and piety is the way to preserve and protect people, and God takes care of His servants and saves them from all sins, the Almighty said: (And whoever fears God, He will make for him a way out.)
- Put your trust in God, because this is one of the biggest reasons for a person to be convinced that God will not harm him and will protect him from creation. The Almighty said: (And whoever trusts in God – that is sufficient for him).
How to perform ruqyah according to Islamic law
- Place your right hand on the affected or painful area and recite some of the correct dhikr verses and prayers.
- Imam Al-Bukhari narrated on the authority of Aisha, may God be pleased with her, that the Prophet, may God’s prayers and peace be upon him, used to seek refuge with some of his family members and wiped with his right hand and said: (O God, Lord of people, remove the affliction. Heal it, and You are the healer. There is no cure except Your healing, a healing that does not leave behind a disease.)
- Place your hand on the painful place, call on the name of God, and ask Him to heal and honor it.
- Othman bin Abi Al-Aas complained of pain in his body to the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, so the Prophet said to him: (Put your hand on the part of your body that hurts, and say in the name of God three times, and say seven times, I seek refuge in God and His power from the evil of what I find. Adher).
